The Collarbone
Hand's down the strangest thing that happened to us this summer was that Callie broke her collarbone. I say strange, because we have no idea how or when it happened. She woke up screaming one night saying her neck hurt. She woke up crying multiple times that night. The day before she had been jumping in one of those big inflatable bouncy things but nothing seemed to happen. My best guess is that she maybe fell out of the bed during the night. Charlie was the first to reach her the first time she cried out that night and apparently he was so out of it he wasn't 100% sure if he found her in the bed or not. The next day we were just convinced she had strained a muscle in her neck bouncing in the inflatable house thing. We knew she was in some serious pain, but if you know Callie you know she's not a tough girl and she's quite the drama queen. I told Charlie I would have been tempted to take her pain more seriously if she didn't show me multiple times each day little hangnails and boo boo's on her fingers. So, we just gave her ibprofen and we were convinced it would get better real soon. Well a week goes by and she is still favoring her left shoulder. She was only in a ton of pain that very first day, but she just was still favoring her left shoulder. She literally ran around with it like it was in an imaginary sling. But, then, I notice a knot on her bone that was not supposed to be there. Long story short, we took her to the hospital there in Murrell's Inlet. Sure enough she had broken her collarbone! We were shocked, felt horrible. Charlie said we need to teach her the story of the boy who cried wolf so that this wouldn't happen again. We had considered the possibility of it being a break but quickly dismissed it, thinking she was just not in enough pain for that to be the case. I still feel bad about it. I guess I learned my lesson to really listen and consider each ailment she brings up
She literally wore the sling for 4 minutes. The doc said it wasn't important for her to wear it. In fact, he said she could still swim and do most anything within reason. We were thankful for that.
