Down South

Callie and I just got back from spending 8 days in the south with my family. It was a wonderful week, and let me tell you these pictures do NOT do it justice. I realize a lot of these pictures are pretty bad (i.e. bad angles, people not looking etc.) Half the time I was down there I didn't even have my camera batteries charged, so we missed taking pictures with most of the family members. But, here's what I got.

Children's Museum

We made another trip to the Children's Museum in St. Paul. If you follow our blog, we posted pictures from our first trip here back in Sept. This trip was even better. For one, Callie is older and can enjoy more of the museum. The first time we went was on the Sunday (there's one a month) that it's free for everyone. While this is great because it's free, it's also super crowded. This time we heard that you can get a museum pass through the St. Paul library. It's free for two people and then it's only $2 a person for 4 additional people. So, we got to go all three of us for $2. We were able to go during the week where it was not near as crowded. We had a blast! Here's a little look at what you can do at the Children's Museum.

You can dance to music on-stage like a superstar!

You can drive a metro-transit bus

You can be a cashier

You can do a little grocery shopping

You can play with little floating balls in the water works.

You can run around in an apron five sizes too big!

And, you can wonder who this funny looking person is next to you!

Zoo Adventure

It is Northwestern's spring break, so we have enjoyed a lot of time together as a family. On Wednesday, we went to the free zoo that is about 15 min. from our house. I think I have mentioned this zoo before. We love going, especially because it's free. It's also a great option in the winter because they have a way to view many of their animals from the inside.

The monkey is kinda blurry in this picture. He was posed perfectly, he and Callie just staring at each other. Of course, our camera flash was not too quick and by the time the picture took, he was on the move again.

The monkeys were a big hit! We watched them for a little while.

I kinda felt sorry for the giraffes. They looked so bored. They are able to go outside whenever they want. That would be awful if they were confined to just that little space.

All in all we had a great time at the zoo. After that, we headed to lunch at the Black Forest Inn, a great little German restaurant in downtown Minneapolis.

Father - Daughter Weekend - Day 2

Day 2 was even more fun than the first day. We started the day by hanging out around the house in the morning. Callie loves to be tossed up in the air onto the bed. As soon as she hits the bed, she just smiles and laughs.

After getting tossed around, we hung out on the bed together. For whatever reason, she just loves crawling all over the bed and grabbing things from our bedside table to play with. Sometimes I think she would play all day up there if we would let her.

These are a few of the things that she finds on our bedside table. We get a big kick out of the fact that she puts the chapstick in her mouth like a cigar.

After hanging out at the house, we left for the mall. They have play areas in the mall for kids to play in. Unfortunately I couldn't get a good picture of her there (the flash was too slow a few times and I had to be extra watchful so that some other kid doesn't mow her over). She did get knocked over by a grandmother there who was watching her grandchild. Callie just fell to the floor and got right back up without skipping a beat. She is a tough girl.
After lunch, we headed out to a friends house, so Callie could play with some of her friends. Paul and Matt were single dads for the weekend as well. Callie got her first experience playing the piano at the house. She seemed like a natural.

We finished the day with our first ever daddy-daughter date. We ate at Potbelly's, which is a great sandwich place. As she gets older, I plan on making dates with her a more regular occurrence.

Overall it was a great weekend. My respect/admiration/love for Jennifer grew over the weekend as well. I am so thankful for a wife that puts so much energy into caring for our daughter. I know I couldn't do it consistently well like she does. But I also hope that this is the first of many father-daughter weekends.

Father - Daughter Weekend - Day 1

Jennifer was on a staff women's retreat this weekend, so Callie and I hung out a lot together. We took lots of pictures, so we will use them to inform all of you of what we did.
Right after Jennifer left, Callie and I hung out on the couch together playing with some of her toys

Then we took a trip to Best Buy (one of my favorite stores). She loves just walking around, exploring all that is in the big store.

Then we went to Babies R Us. She found a table with chairs that she could climb into, so we sat there for a while.

She loves walking up and down the toy aisle and "trying out" all the toys.

We finished the night by watching Wheel of Fortune together.

Day 1 was a huge success even though it was tiring at points.

Wheel of Fortune

Almost every night after we finish eating dinner, we all sit down and watch Wheel of Fortune together. Callie absolutely loves it. When Pat and Vanna come on the show and say hi to everyone, she will sometimes respond by saying "Hey!" When they play music on the show for the "toss up" puzzles she will bounce up and down until the puzzle gets solved. Then she claps for the players when they get it right. It has been fun to watch her get into the show so much.

Adventures

We have had a few adventures lately. On Saturday, Callie and I joined her friends and their moms at the conservatory. The conservatory is a great place to go in the winter. There are tons of beautiful plants and flowers, and the best part is that it is warm and humid! The girls are left to right Ellie Jane (19mos.), Annie (16mos.), Callie (14mos.), and Maddux (16mos.)

It's also been warm (by that I mean mid to upper 30s). We've enjoyed walking outside the past few days. There is a park nearby our house (there are like 10). But, this park is really pretty. We went for a walk Sat. afternoon. The path goes around a lake and you pass by this waterfall (partly frozen) on the way.

These are just random pics that Charlie took. One from Sunday morning. They have no relevance, but we know that the Grandparents want to see EVERYTHING!!
